Dr Laungani
In 2020, Dr Alex Laungani is invited to join the team of surgeons at GrS Montreal. Trained in Belgium and at the Mayo Clinic in the United States, his expertise in trans surgical care is an important asset for our patients.
Dr. Laungani received his medical degree with « High distinction » in 2008 from the University of Liege, in Liege Belgium. He then completed the very competitive plastic surgery 6-year residency program in Liege, Belgium which he graduated from in 2014.
Following this training, he was invited to join the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he worked in a microsurgical lab, leading to new findings advancing the field. Because he is a perfectionist striving to always be better, he completed a second 6-year residency in one of the most prestigious plastic surgery programs in the USA at the Mayo Clinic, which he graduated from in 2020.
During his 20+ years of medical education, Dr. Laungani has always had the goal of offering quality care for trans individuals. Professor Monstrey (Ghent, Belgium) was one of his first mentors, followed by Dr. Brassard whom he has worked closely with since 2015.
Dr. Laungani has also held leadership positions at the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) where he remains an active member and a fierce advocate of trans rights. Along with Dr. Brassard, he is also part of the teaching faculty at the Mayo Clinic course on « Principles of Care of the Transgender and Intersex patients » since 2017. Dr. Laungani takes at heart the mission to ensure that the next generation of providers will have appropriate training to offer the surgical care deserved by trans patients.
